EDRP Description

The Exposure-Dose Reconstruction Project (EDRP) is a cooperative research program between the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). The goal of the research program is to develop analytical methods and computational tools to quantify exposure of populations to contaminants and to predict future levels of contaminant distributions in the environment through multimedia environmental pathways. The purpose of this analysis is to link sources of contamination to potential receptor populations through risk based simulation tools. The risk based computational tools developed throughout the project may be used by health assessors and health scientists to identify the potential for adverse health outcomes due to environmental contamination by identifying potentially exposed populations and by determining if these contaminant exposure levels have exceeded exposure guidelines (limits) for specific chemicals under study. As the science of estimating human dose exposure advances, methods developed as part of this project will be updated and revised to provide scientists and researchers with state of the art tools.
